So this was my plan for the day....quiet, happy, and restful.

This was how our day turned out....SILLY!

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!

We had SO MUCH FUN at Country Bumpkin.  We visited the pumpkin patch, corn field,  a hay bale maze, and the play village.  I think we will ALL sleep good tonight!!

(If your child brought home popcorn it needs to dry...it may be ready around Christmas.  Once the kernels are ready to come of the cob, you can pop them your favorite way.)

We even saw a baby lamb...born this morning!

Today we had a writing celebration!  For the past 2 weeks, we have been authors...drawing pictures, labeling, and writing sentences to tell stories.  In kindergarten, we "kid write" by stretching out a word and writing the sounds we know (for example, "cat" might be written "kt".)  So today, everyone had a chance to share 1 piece of writing.  I'm soooo proud of our authors!!

We had a fun time with our 2nd grade buddies today!  We made pumpkins out of lunch sacks to put in the school showcase.  Here are some pictures...there were LOTS of steps to follow, but they turned out great!

The weather didn't cooperate for our field trip today.  Even though it had stopped raining, we decided the grass would be very wet and opted to stay warm and dry in our classroom!  Hopefully, we'll have a beautiful day next Friday for Country Bumpkin :)

Speaking of Country Bumpkin, we decided it would be a good idea to learn about pumpkins!  Today we read a nonfiction story that taught us how pumpkins grow.  We're going to try to sprout seeds in our room...I cut the top off a pie pumpkin, added dirt and water, and we put the pumpkin by our sunny window.  We're hoping the seeds inside will grow!

Happy Monday!
We start our morning with"Reader's Workshop."  We have been learning to be book lovers, and each day we practice reading.  There are 3 ways we read stories in kindergarten...read the pictures, retell a story we already know, or read the words.  This week we're focusing on concepts of print.  We learned that readers read from left to right and top to bottom.  We even have special "reading fingers" to help us point to words.  :)

We've also started writing stories!  Today we learned that we can label our pictures to give the reader more information.  Just for fun, we "labeled" a kindergartner :)

We had a super tasty apple party today in kindergarten!  We have been busy learning about apples, and this was a great way to celebrate the end of our unit.  Which treat was your child's favorite?
