Happy Monday! I hope you had the chance to enjoy the BEAUTIFUL weather this weekend...I'm lovin' it, and have my fingers crossed that the warm, sunny days will stick around awhile.
Even though it feels more like summer, we've started learning about FALL.
Last week, we graphed fall leaves and made these awesome torn paper leaf pictures.

Today, we read a story about apples, then tasted 3 different varieties...red delicious, golden delicious, and granny smith. We also graphed which was our favorite. Can you believe how many friends liked the tart granny smiths??
We also welcomed a new friend~Jaden~ to our kindergarten class!

We started literacy centers today. I have 5 stations set up, and the children will visit one each day. We work with 2-3 learning buddies to practice skills that will help make us awesome readers!
This week we are working on reading and writing our friends' names.

Welcome to our class blog for the 2014-15 school year! I hope that you will check back often to find out what we're learning each week in kindergarten. Feel free to leave a comment, so we know you've stopped by :)
During our literacy time in the morning, we are doing a quick intro/review of letter names and sounds. Some friends know the letters from 4K-and home-but for other students, this is new learning. We are also practicing forming the letters the "kindergarten way"...starting our lines at the top, and pulling down.

During our math lesson, we played our first partner game! I was so proud of the way the children were talking and learning together. We've been using the words "same" and "different" to describe shapes, and we've also been writing and counting using the numbers 1 and 2 (so far :). Our Math program spends a lot of time on the numbers 1-10, so students have a great understanding of what those numbers actually mean, and different ways to make them (ex...2 and 3 are the same as 5).
We've also been getting to know our friends! Each day, we spend some time getting to know one of our friends a little better by asking them questions about themselves. Then we talk about their name, and draw a picture of them (your child will bring their pics home in a class book!)
But the best part is just playing together...it's great seeing all the smiling faces during playtime!!
